We understand that surgery is not an easy experience for you and your pet. At Clive Cottage Veterinary Clinic we strive to ensure your pet's surgical procedure is as comfortable and stress free as possible. This includes providing our clients with a clear understanding of why a particular procedure is necessary, what the procedure entails, proper post-operative care, and conveying any other information you may need to feel comfortable that you are making the right choice for your pet.
At Clive Cottage Veterinary Clinic we perform most surgical procedures. We are well equipped and have a dedicated surgical suite with full facilities. We perform a range of orthopedic, soft tissue, elective and emergency surgery.
Before surgery, your pet will have a full physical exam and anesthetics will be specially selected depending on your pet’s breed, age, and health. Blood tests are highly recommended before any anesthetics are given. This will confirm that your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia, and that your pet’s internal organs are functioning properly.
During anesthesia and surgery, your pet is constantly monitored by a trained veterinary Nurse using our advanced monitoring system. The system helps us continuously monitor your pet's arterial oxygen level, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate.
Pain management is an important component of your pet's surgery. At Clive Cottage Veterinary Clinic, we know that animals experience pain and discomfort in much the same way that humans do. Therefore, we believe that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care. The more comfortable your pet is, the faster he or she will heal.
Our protocols are tailored to the individual needs of your pet. Pre-medication, post and after care medication are used in all surgical cases and will vary depending on the procedure being performed.
We will provide thorough verbal and written discharge instructions to every client for every surgery. These explain what to expect during the recovery period, warning signs and any instructions to aid recovery.
